Grand Opening of E-cinema Network in New Brunswick

E-cinema is an opportunity for the NFB to reach out to Canadians wherever they are

Filmmaking in the digital age is fast moving and ever changing. New formats, cameras, editing and image software - filmmakers and producers need to run to keep up to pace with each advancing step of movie making in the 21st century.

Now the NFB propels film distribution down the same digital runway, with the launch of the e-cinema project in New Brunswick. A three year pilot project that brings community members of Bouctouche, Caraquet, Edmunston, Kedgwick and Moncton venues to enjoy films in high definition. An image quality that is not available in most mainstream cinemas.

E-cinema opens the door to a more versatile movie experience. With light, durable equipment that can be as little as a server, projector, sound system, and an HD screen or TV, those living outside of the main urban centres can access high quality Canadian and Acadian content in French, at an e-cinema location nearby.

As well as diversifying the content on Canadian screens, e-cinema distribution is also "eco", as it reduces the needs for shipping, and the materials that are needed in traditional theatre viewings.
